Fürst, Elena (Universität Wien) Elena Fürst An Exploration of Persistent Identifiers Use, Value and Future Presentation slides for the Introduction of the webinar "An Exploration of Persistent Identifers: Use, Value and Future" that took place on April 27, 2022, 10:00 to 12:00, online, as part of the event series "Research Data Management in Austria". In this webinar, we discuss the use of PIDs for researchers on a practical level and mainly focus on the Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID ID), and the registration of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for data sets and other publications. We further examine the importance of PIDs for researchers and the (international) research infrastructure by taking a closer look at the digitisation project RIS Synergy. RIS Synergy creates the sustainable foundation for digitising the Austrian research landscape: 15 partner institutions develop open interfaces for access and exchange between the systems of funding organisations, research institutions and the public administration.
